It’s time

President of the Disability Intergroup and the vice-president of the Eurpean Parliament greeted the new and re-elected members of the gremium on a festive opening in Brussels 27th January. Adam Kósa gave voice to his gladness that the political parties have joined with each other for disability, while Pal Schmitt appreciated the new president’s acts until now and put his trust in the Intergroup to make for disabled people’s integration into society. He mentioned sport movement as an example and spoke about disabled crack’s achievements.

President of the European Disability Forum was also on the event, while EDF is the Intergroup’s primal supporter and professional synergistic partner.
I must confess, I never thought that I would stand in front of you one day – said Adam Kósa in his greeting speech. The president evaluated the fact that he was elected as the first disabled person for this position, as the example of the change of european people’s approach. For this improvement the Intergroup’s former president Richard Howitt has done a lot, who is now still the member and the vice-president of the gremium.
But the job has not finished yet and cannot be finished at all because new challanges and opportunities have been rising, so Mr Kósa, who highlighted that more than 80 MEPs expressed interests and supports for the re-established Disability Intergroup.
„When I campaigned in Hungary last spring for winning the seat of the EP, I always indicated that disability transcends political boundaries” – stressed the president who still stand for this principle. Kósa mentioned the ratification of the UN Convention on the rights of people with disabilities, and the adoption of the Disability Pact by the Commission are among the tasks of the Intergroup. „We also have to deal with the anti-discrimination directive, barrier-free info-communication and more” – he said.

After all, Adam Kósa opened the year of 2010. and piqued the members of the Disability Intergroup that „time has arrived, we must do once!”
 

Itt az idő

Ünnepélyes megnyitón köszöntötte az újraalakult Disability Intergroup elnöke és az Európai Parlament alelnöke a tagokat. Kósa Ádám örömét fejezte ki a pártok feletti összefogásért, míg Schmitt Pál, méltatva az új elnök eddigi tevékenységét, reményét fejezte ki, hogy az Intergroup hozzájárul a fogyatékkal élők teljes társadalmi integrációjához. Példaként a sportmozgalmat nevezte meg, valamint a fogyatékos sportolók kiváló eredményeiről beszélt. A brüsszeli rendezvényen jelen volt az Európai Fogyatékosügyi Fórum (EDF) elnöke is. A szervezet a fogyatékosügyi frakcióközi csoport legfőbb támogatója és szakmai együttműködő partnere.

Bevallom, még én sem gondoltam arra, hogy a mai nap itt fogok állni és köszönthetem Önöket – hangzottak el Kósa Ádám szavai. Az elnök azt, hogy személyében egy fogyatékossággal élő embert választottak meg erre a posztra az európai szemléletváltozás kiemelkedő példájának tekinti. Ehhez járult hozzá a terület egyik kiemelkedő aktivistája, az Intergroup korábbi elnöke, a brit Richard Howitt képviselő is, aki a frakcióközi csoport tagja maradt.

Kósa üdvözölte, hogy több mint 80 képviselő fejezte ki érdeklődését és támogatását a fogyatékosügyi frakcióközi csoport újraalakítása során, és hangsúlyozta, hogy továbbra is kitart mottója mellett, mely szerint a fogyatékosügy nem jobb- vagy baloldaliság kérdése.

Az elnök az Intergroup feladatai között említette a Fogyatékossággal Élő Személyek Jogairól szóló ENSZ-egyezmény ratifikációjának kérdését, a Disability Pact elfogadtatását, az antidiszkriminációs irányelv és az infokommunikációs akadálymentesítés kritikus pontjainak megvitatását.

„Itt az idő, cselekedni kell” – mondta Kósa Ádám, majd ünnepélyesen is megnyitotta a Disability Intergroup idei évét.
